How To Use A Charcoal Chimney Starter

How to use a charcoal chimney starter

A chimney starter is one of those must-have accessories for the charcoal grill enthusiast. It’s simple to use and makes getting those coals started much less of a chore and eliminates the need for messy starter fluid. So in this post, I’m going to discuss how to use a charcoal chimney starter and why you would want to.

It is my opinion that every backyard chef, including you, should have one of these because I’m sure it will prove to be an invaluable yet inexpensive addition to your arsenal of backyard grilling accessories. At around $15.00 it’s a charcoal grilling must have.

Why use one?

Although I prefer to use the old-fashioned method of starter fluid to light my grill.(Just because it’s what I’m used to). I do find it sometimes necessary to use a charcoal chimney starter to get things going a little quicker.

You may prefer to use the chimney exclusively after you see how easy it is to use.

This post is going to be short and sweet because there really isn’t much to using this must have tool.

I’ll try to explain it in a few short steps.

So, before we get started there are a few things you’re going to need.

  • The first is a chimney starter
  • The next is some old newspaper
  • And the most important thing is the charcoal

Now we’re ready to begin.

  1. The first thing we need to do is crumple up some of the newspaper and place it in the bottom of the chimney below the grate
  2. Set the chimney on the bottom grate of the grill where the charcoal would go.
  3. Pour charcoals into the top of the chimney.
  4. Light the paper in the bottom of the chimney.
  5. It should only take about 10 to 15 minutes for the coals to be ready.
  6. Once the coals are ready, pour the coals onto the bottom grill grate.
  7. Install the top grate on your grill and you’re ready to go.

Now you know how to use a charcoal chimney starter.
